YouTube and AdSense

After ignoring social media in general for a long time I have finally decided to jump on to the blogging bandwagon and try it for the first time. I did a little bit of pondering and decided to blog about something that has been on my mind recently. YouTube !. I must admit I have been hooked on to some channels lately. Some of my favorites are vihart, edbassmaster, nqtv, teamcoco and many more. It’s not just the content on these channels that fascinates me but the fact that many YouTube channel owners actually make a living out of these videos.
The way it works is really simple. People who want to make money 'monetize' their videos, which basically means that YouTube can play advertisements on top of their content. YouTube also tracks the number of times these ads are watched and the number of times people click on these ads. And you get paid according to those numbers. Ad clicks of course are paid more than views. Advertisers bid for these ad slots in a real time auction and the highest paying ads show on your content. Elegant !
I have also very recently created my own YouTube channel Subscribe to me on YouTubeand started uploading videos. At the moment it is just some animation videos that I have been creating in java. I don't really expect to make any real money of this channel just happy to be posting for now :-)
